Girls of Steel

Girls of Steel assists young women to gain an apprenticeship in a non-traditional trade.

Evero is excited to be hosting an innovative new program—Girls of Steel. Run by The Skill Engineer, Girls of Steel gives young women aged 17+ the opportunity to obtain an apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication, fitting and turning, boiler making, welding, as well as diesel or mechanical fitting. Course work will be underpinned by Certificate II in Engineering Pathways and Work Skills Cert I and will be project-based, including the manufacture of park furniture for councils, sculptures, trailers, signposts and bespoke letterboxes.

Nationally, just over 12% of the engineering labour workforce is female. This project aims to foster gender diversity in the workplace, by placing young women in non-traditional roles.

The first intake of ten participants will be starting at Evero’s Wangaratta site in July.
